There are 2 kinds of Teams in BigPicture - Global and Program. Global Teams can be defined once and used in multiple Programs, while Program Teams exist only inside their own specific Programs and cannot be re-used.

We recommend making your constant teams (dev teams, PMO, etc) as Global Teams and using Program Teams only for ad-hoc project/task forces.

Global Teams

Click "Manage Global Teams" button, it will take you to BigPicture > Administration > To create a Global Team, simply start typing in the Name field at the top. For each team, you can specify a name, Agile board (for Roadmap), code and color. The code can be 10 characters at most.

You can expand and collapse the teams to show the members and add new ones:

To see the suggestions, you need the Browse users permission in JIRA. More info.

Let's add a team member. Click New Membership on any un-collapsed team. Type a username, select start date*, set the availability** and see all user's Skills loaded automatically after clicking create and expanding user's membership.

* System will only present skills which period match the membership period. If the skill is to be obtained next year, it will not be presented in this year's membership. Click here to learn all about Skills (to be adjusted whenResource Manager article is updated.

** Availability value is a % representation of FTE (Full Time Employment). If you only negotiated your Individual to work half a day in your project, put 50% in that field.

Deleting and editing teams is done using the buttons appearing on the right when you hover over a user or a team.

Program teams

Inside each Program, it is also possible to create Program Teams (only for this particular Program). To configure them, simply open the BigPicture menu and click on Teams.

When adding a new Team using the "+Team" icon, you can select one of the following options:

  • You can create a new Program Team

  • Copy the setup of a selected Global Team to the Program Team

  • Or assign a Global Team to the Program

Working with teams

With Teams defined, the SAFe® Roadmap module will be operational, and Resource manager will allow you to filter the view to specific Team only (to see a team's summary).

Modification of team code (Tempo integration scenario)

Creating a team requires a set of information which is used by BigPicture. One information which is visible on Jira tickets is the (Team) Code when the SAFe® Roadmap module is used. One special scenario for BigPicture teams which are synchronised from Tempo is automatic generation of the Team Code when the team is synchronised for the first time. Such automatic generation sets the team Code to fit following pattern Tempo@XXX. Thankfully, team Code can be replaced with a more humane form which dramatically improves the likability of Teams (smile)
