Managing the Backlog

Backlog presented in the sidebar section serves for planning tasks (Epics, Stories, Sub-tasks etc.) for presented Boxes (iterations, Program increments etc.). Backlog items are displayed, in that section, in one of the following ways:

  • list of tasks (flat mode)
  • hierarchy of tasks (Work Breakdown Structure mode)

The Backlog sidebar can display data at the Program Increment level and at the Iteration level. The scope of the backlog will adjust to reflect the currently viewed Time-box.

The table below describes the Backlog's main features:

FeatureDescription
Program nameShows the current Program name or a current Time-box.
WBS

Switch between two views:

Show planned tasks

Hide tasks which were already planned and are displayed on the Board. The planned tasks are indicated with the green colour and unplanned tasks with white colour (7).

Search box

Text search the backlog - works like the text search in JQL i.e. all text fields.

When the WBS is enabled, parent issues which do not fit the search query will show up in the backlog indicated with grey colour. All tasks which fit the search query will be indicated with black colour.

Manage columns

Configure the columns of the Backlog sidebar to add different fields available in Jira and inline edit the following field types:

      • text
      • numeric
Hide backlogClick to hide the backlog sidebar.
Planned tasksTasks which are highlighted with green are already planned.

Switching between Program and PI(s) backlog on Board

Once you scroll down to Iteration level on your board, you can now choose the scope of issues you would like to see in your backlog sidebar:

  • Program backlog NEW OPTION

  • Program Increment backlog
  • No labels
